Large Rectangular Fiberglass Planter with Sub Irrigation

Rain / Sub-Irrigation Solutions

Beautiful planters are great—but they’re only the supporting actors to the real stars: the plants.

At Tikal Composite Designs, we create planters that don’t just look stunning—they help plants thrive. Our integrated sub-irrigation, rain harvesting, and water retention systems work together to deliver the perfect amount of moisture to the roots, reducing maintenance and promoting long-term plant health.

Rain Harvesting

Our rain harvesting planters collect and store rainfall directly from the planter surface. This stored water is naturally drawn up through the roots, mimicking how plants access groundwater in nature.

Sustainable watering: Uses every drop of rain before you ever need to refill.

Manual refill ready: Easily top off the sub-irrigation reservoir during dry periods.

Eco-certified design: Our civil engineer can write a Green Roof Certification outlining how the system can meet civil requirements for storm water retention or detention.

Indoor Self-Watering / Sub-Irrigation Planters

Avoid unsightly drip trays while ensuring your plants never sit in excess water. Our indoor sub-irrigation planters include a sealed internal reservoir that feeds the roots through capillary action—providing water only when the plant needs it.

  • Keeps roots oxygenated and prevents rot
  • Reduces watering frequency
  • Supports healthier, longer-lasting plants

For minimal added cost, give your plants the system they deserve—a self-watering planter that works in harmony with nature.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to the water when it freezes?

For outdoor installations that may experience freezing temperatures, we install a valve to winterize by draining the reservoir.

What happens if there is too much rain? Does the whole planter fill up?

No, every outdoor planter will have an overflow outlet so that the water level never exceeds the reservoir height.

Is it easy to install?

Yes, we install the system in the planters and there is often no additional shipping costs. Just add soil and your plants.
