Our Background

Before founding Tikal Composite Designs in 2018, Alberto Chuc spent 20 years leading production for a major outdoor furnishings company. Alberto is a true artisan, and his craftsmanship and attention to detail is shown in every product shipped.

To allow Alberto time to focus on his craft and mentor our growing production team, Todd Johnson joined as a partner in 2024. Prior to Tikal, Todd spent the previous 19 years in leadership roles in industrial and aerospace composite companies.

A friendship was started in 2010, over mutual love of nature, gardening, and using materials to enhance these passions. The two are now fulfilling the dream of running a business together and making beautiful products for others to love.

Engineering + Nature

Tikal (pronounced Tee-Call) takes its name from the ancient Mayan capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Guatemala. Known for its advanced engineering and deep connection to nature, Tikal reflects both our craftsmanship and Alberto’s roots—having immigrated from Guatemala in the early 1990's.

Originally founded as a manufacturing partner for OEMs and major brands—who have called us their "secret weapon"—Tikal expanded in 2023 to offer our products directly to the architecture, design, and landscape communities.
