Project Overview
When construction of The Mercer, a new luxury apartment community in West Hollywood, reached the landscape phase, the project team needed a manufacturer capable of producing dozens of custom fiberglass planters in a variety of sizes, all within an aggressive construction schedule. The Mercer is a 17 residence luxury development near the Sunset Strip developed by Christina Real Estate Investors.
The GC for the project, Westside Contractors, identified Tikal Composite Designs as the right manufacturing partner, and Paramount Nursery & Landscaping selected our team to fabricate and deliver the custom planters for installation.
The Challenge
The landscape architect's design called for 46 custom fiberglass planters in multiple configurations, including oversized cylinders and large rectangular planters. Each planter needed to meet the project's architectural specifications while maintaining consistent quality and finish across every piece.
Like many commercial construction projects, the schedule was just as important as quality. The installation timeline left very little room for manufacturing delays.
Tikal's Solution
Working closely with Paramount Nursery & Landscaping, Tikal manufactured 46 custom fiberglass planters in a wide variety of sizes and configurations, including large cylindrical and rectangular designs. Every planter was built using commercial grade FRP construction and fabricated to meet the architect's specifications. From approved shop drawings through manufacturing and delivery, the entire project was completed in just five weeks, allowing the landscape installation to remain on schedule.

Going Beyond Delivery
Our commitment didn't end when the truck left the factory.
During installation, an unexpected windstorm knocked over several rooftop planters, resulting in cosmetic damage. Rather than leaving the installer to resolve the issue, Tikal dispatched a repair team directly to the project site to perform onsite fiberglass repairs and refinishing.
This minimized delays, eliminated the need to replace planters, re-plant, and helped keep the project moving toward completion.
Results
The Mercer was successfully completed with all 46 custom planters delivered on schedule and installed throughout the property.
The project demonstrated Tikal's ability to manufacture large custom commercial planter packages on tight schedules, produce a wide variety of planter sizes while maintaining consistent quality, and support customers beyond delivery with responsive field service when unexpected challenges arise.
